One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate that once belonged to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira—known as the Ferreirinha—and that remains in the hands of her descendants to this day. Vallado wines had been unjustly forgotten, but they have now naturally reclaimed their lost time. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve to be among the very best. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the region. It is situated just outside Régua, along the banks of the River Corgo. The stewardship of this iconic estate is held by João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the business operations and the winemaking, respectively.
