Very few producers, especially in Madeira wine production, have experienced a revolution as significant as the one that happened with Barbeito. Going from a bulk wine supplier to becoming a benchmark in the Madeira wine region is a remarkable achievement, given the fierce competition at the time. Everything changed in 1991 when Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and, together with the Japanese Kinoshita, decided to transform Barbeito into one of Madeira’s leading wine producers. That same year, a crucial shift occurred: for the first time, wine production was entrusted to a family member. Two years later, after Ricardo’s arrival, he completed his first harvest entirely on his own, setting the stage for a team united by the motto “produce quality wines with a distinctive style.” The bottling year may not match the image shown (illustrative only).
