Very few producers, especially in Madeira wine, find a revolution in their history as dramatic as that of Barbeito. To go from bulk wine supplier to a benchmark of the Madeira wine region is a remarkable feat. In 1991, Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and, together with the Japanese Kinoshita, turned Barbeito into one of the region’s most important Madeira producers. The bottling year may not match the accompanying illustration.
