This Quinta da Seara Riesling, a venture from Marcos Hehn Pinto da Silva, is a delightful reminder that the Douro Valley still has a few surprises up its sleeve. Grown on a quinta boasting roots stretching nearly 700 metres – with the Rio Tedo gently meandering nearby – the wine bursts with refreshing energy, clearly influenced by those classic German Mosel grapes. Despite the local tradition of Cerceal Branco and Gouveio, Hehn’s bold move of planting Riesling has resulted in an explosion of peach and fresh tangerine notes, alongside a welcome layer of complexity that’s quite impressive. As confirmed by wine critic Revista de Vinhos with a score of 17.5 points, this is a wine with a rich texture and ageing potential – a truly limited edition of just 1739 bottles to savour.
