This Messias Bairrada Clássico Garrafeira is a wine that feels utterly born of an island – you can almost smell the salt spray. Primarily made with Baga, the grapes were lovingly ‘trodden’ for six days, a technique clearly favoured by the variety. The result is a wine of remarkable structure, boasting a resinous, cedar-tinged salinity and subtle iodine notes, much admired by *Revista de Vinhos* who awarded it 18.5 points. It has excellent ageing potential, and would be fantastic with seafood, or simply enjoyed as a contemplative drink reflecting the power of the Atlantic.
