This Mirabilis is a remarkably successful obsession. Born from decades of research and a deep reverence for ancient vines – many exceeding 100 years – it’s a bold gamble showcasing the Douro’s white grape potential. Predominantly sourced from Viosinho and Gouveio, alongside those venerable old vines, the result is a wine of exceptional complexity, boasting a freshness that belies its mineral structure. The exceptionally warm and dry 2022 vintage, culminating in a September recovery, has delivered a remarkably balanced expression, revealing ripe fruit aromas and a tension hinting at remarkable longevity. Meticulous production – including whole-cluster pressing and extended ageing in both French and Hungarian oak – provides a silky texture and a mineral signature echoing the schist-granite landscape. And, of course, with accolades from Robert Parker and James Suckling, it’s a bet that’s certainly paid off.
