This Monte Cascas Beira Interior Reserva clearly had a spirited youth – a rather forceful birth, you might say! It spent three days macerating in cool temperatures, as if bracing itself for a significant encounter. Following a slow, considered fermentation, it was then aged in used French oak, presumably to mellow things out. Remarkably, a year of ageing has allowed the robust Aragonez and elegant Touriga Nacional, characteristic of the region, to achieve a truly surprising harmony. It’s best paired with grilled beef – a dish that can truly match its intensity.
