Niepoort once again throws convention out the window with the Voyeur Mulato 2018. Rather than fixating on the individual grape varieties – sourced from vineyards nearing fifty years old and perched at challenging altitudes – the producer trusts in the magic of the Douro, macerating the grapes for an extended period in imposing, one-and-a-half-meter tall terracotta vats. The result is a truly complex wine, a veritable performance of flavour, showcasing the distinct character of each vineyard along the Douro River. Expect a beautiful balance of robust Aragonez alongside the elegant touch of Alicante Bouschet; perfect with grilled fish or white meats.
