The grapes of Redoma Branco come from old vines on the right bank of the Douro River, situated at altitudes between 400 and 600 metres. In these vineyards, the predominant varieties are Rabigato, Codéga do Larinho, Viosinho, Donzelinho and Gouveio. Their micaceous soils give rise to wines that are very mineral, delicate and exceptionally fresh. In the national wine scene, there is no more consensus about a producer than Niepoort, whose long history began in 1842 with the first Van Der Niepoort arriving in Portugal. Starting in the Port wine market as a trader, he quickly established a business that would prove prosperous and forward‑looking. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a pivotal figure in the world of wines, recognised as one of the most important personalities devoted to Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also preparing his legacy with those who continually create irreverent wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort works on many other projects across practically all Portuguese wine regions and some abroad.
