Opus One was born from the collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the legendary owner of Château Mouton Rothschild, and famed Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. Together they united the great winemaking traditions and innovations of their families with a common goal: to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley. Opus One, like any great work, emerged from passion. Dedicated to uncompromising quality, its mission is to convey this vision and passionate spirit to future generations. 2016 The year 2016 marked the fifth consecutive year of severe drought in Northern California. However, the Oakville estate was fortunate, receiving 72 cm of rain—most of it before March—creating ideal conditions for early vine budbreak, which began on March 7. Conditions in August were perfect for ripening, and moderate temperatures prevailed until harvest, with only a brief heat spike at the start of September. Harvest began on September 9 under mild conditions, allowing the vineyard team to be more selective and work at a steady pace. As temperatures rose, the harvest accelerated and was completed in just 33 days, on October 12. Vinification Blend: 77 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 8 % Petit Verdot, 8 % Merlot, 5 % Cabernet Franc, 2 % Malbec. Skin contact for 17 days. Barrel aging 18 months in new French oak barrels.
