Right then, let’s have a look at this one. This Pedra Basta, brainchild of the brilliant Rui Reguinga, is a real shot of Alentejo energy. The Trincadeira, joined by a touch of Alicante Bouschet and Aragonez – hinting at that deliciously dark fruit – provides a wonderfully sturdy foundation. There’s even a Cabernet Sauvignon sneaking in, seemingly determined to be a little bit of a troublemaker! Best enjoyed with some properly roasted black pork, or a cracking grilled steak, I reckon. And, as a bonus, it’s a wine that’s already scooped a World Gold Prize – definitely worth a proper tasting.
