Ponte Mouchão An Alentejo DOC wine that is surprising, as aromatic and elegant as it is intense and structured, irreverent and full of personality. Ponte Mouchão is the top‑of‑the‑line batch wine from the estate and has already won many connoisseurs. It follows the ancestral winemaking techniques of Mouchão, with hand harvesting, foot‑treading in open stone vats, and aging in used French oak barrels and old wooden casks. All reds at Mouchão are vinified in open stone vats. Whole bunches, with leaves, are incorporated into the maceration process, making the timing of the harvest especially critical; a delicate balance between sugars, acids, and overall phenolic maturity must be achieved. Hand‑picked whole bunches are transported in 20‑kg crates to the cellar, where they are crushed and left to ferment for about 5 to 8 days. This young wine will undergo malolactic fermentation in autumn in large 5,000‑litre wooden casks. Mid‑winter it is filtered and then left in the cellar without further intervention for about 18 months. After bottling it will age in our caves for an additional 18 months before release. Viticulture: Well‑drained alluvial soils mixed with red Mediterranean clay soils (the estate’s vineyards and the Ponte vineyard), with an average age of 19 years at harvest. Vineyard plots and varieties are harvested separately. The complex, characterful Touriga Franca comes from the Ponte vineyard, about 16 years old. The fragrant Touriga Nacional and the full‑bodied Syrah both come from the estate vineyard, about 20 years old (between the estate and the Almadafe stream). Allergen information: Contains sulfites.
