Description

A Herdade do Monte da Ribeira dates back to 1958 and was acquired in 1986 by industrialist Victor Carmona e Costa, who over the next 15 years not only completely refurbished the estate but also set up the current agricultural production framework and winery. The estate lies in the parish of Pedrogão, within the municipality of Vidigueira and near the village of Marmelar, covering roughly 1,100 hectares devoted to viticulture and forestry. With wine production as one of its main focuses, the first vineyard was planted in 1989 and the first harvest was released in 1992 under the Vidigueira label. Subsequently the Pousio and Quatro Caminhos brands were added, and more recently the Marmelar brand. (Illustrative image)
