This Proibido Vintage is certainly an experience. The deep ruby colour – seriously impressive – hints at a vintage of considerable character, evoking the best vineyards of the ‘Velhas Vinhas’. It’s a robust wine with incredibly smooth tannins, seemingly imbued with the very spirit of the Douro. Robert Parker’s 90 points rightly recognise its structure and complexity, and the lingering finish practically begs you to savour it slowly – a fantastic match with a good aged cheese and perhaps a slice of cured pork.
