This Quinta da Boavista Reserva seems rather preoccupied with elegance – and it certainly delivers an intense experience. Crafted with the meticulousness one expects from a vineyard boasting a history as rich as that of Barão de Forrester, the wine reveals a deep ruby hue, hinting at a remarkably considered maturity. Complex aromas of red and black fruits, tobacco, and spices are elevated by a distinctive rock rose and iris note – a surprising floral element, to be sure. With impeccably polished tannins and a guaranteed longevity, the wine offers an elegant texture and a persistent finish, ideally suited to a fine cheese and, perhaps, a stimulating conversation. Undeniably a jewel of the Douro, but a wine demanding a certain respect.
