This Escolha from Quinta da Esperança, straight from the heart of the Alentejo, is a wine that whispers of luxury rather than shouting it. The fermentation, meticulously managed between 20-25°C in stainless steel tanks, lays the groundwork for the generous contribution of Touriga Nacional and Alicante Bouschet – these grapes providing a lovely weight and texture. Nine months ageing in French oak barrels, with a touch of influence from older, second and third-use wines, adds a refined elegance and a subtle vanilla note, beautifully contrasting with the rustic character of the grapes. It’s a complex wine that deserves a hearty beef roast to really shine.
