This Romaneira Reserva is a delightfully unconventional wine, built around Viosinho and Gouveio grapes. The producers cleverly employed 25% new French oak for fermentation, aiming for that wild cedar note that a chilled Verdelho simply can’t deliver. Regular batonnage – three months of weekly lees stirring – has resulted in a remarkably elegant and persistent structure. It’s a wine with serious aging potential, though the wood still lingers on the finish. Frankly, it seems to suggest a life beyond just fish – perhaps grilled sea bass would truly unlock its character.
