“This Douro Syrah from Quinta da Romaneira is a delightfully concentrated wine. Young French oak (55%) contributes generously, but the influence of second-fill barrels (45%) ensures a remarkable level of integration. On the nose, you’ll pick up robust spices – cumin and cinnamon are particularly prominent – alongside wild berry nuances and a delicate floral lift. It’s a wine with plenty of punch, but beautifully balanced. On the palate, it’s full and refreshing, revealing notes of honey and raspberry with elegance. The long finish and seamlessly integrated oak provide lasting pleasure. As they say, it’s excellent now, but will undoubtedly reward further cellaring – perhaps alongside a hearty grilled beef dish?”
