Quinta das Bágeiras Garrafeira is made from the Baga grape, with the fruit coming from vines that are more than 90 years old. It is produced only in exceptional vintages and showcases the authentic expression of the Bairrada region. The wine is a solid‑structured red with powerful tannins, bright freshness, and deep complexity, making it ideal for aging in the bottle. The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not ring a bell for the casual observer, but he is the great mentor behind Quinta das Bágeiras’ outstanding wines. The estate’s history dates back to three generations of winemaking, but it was not until 1989—under Mário Sérgio’s direction—that the wines began to be bottled and sold. From that point the estate quickly became a benchmark for Bairrada and Portuguese wines. While the winemaking follows the traditions of previous generations, the wines are never just a passing trend; they are always in style, revealing each harvest the character of the region and the people who produce them.
