This white from Quinta de Azevedo is remarkably meticulous; it’s clear the winemakers don’t tolerate a wasted grape. The initial wildness of the Loureiro and Alvarinho was carefully managed, with fermentation held at a rather conservative temperature – a touch fussy, perhaps, but it undeniably preserved the wine’s refreshing character. The “battonage,” a constant stirring of the lees, adds a sophisticated layer. It’s an elegant wine, ideally suited to complementing freshly grilled fish or a vibrant gaspacho.
