La Rosa Production La Rosa Estate Reserva DOC 2022. Made from 50 % Touriga Nacional, 45 % Touriga Franca, and 5 % Tinta Roriz. All grapes used in this wine come from the La Rosa Estate. Fermented in stainless‑steel tanks, followed by 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, 40 % of which are new. Bottled in October 2024. **Terroir** The Douro, although an ancient region, continues to reveal enormous untapped potential, thanks to its large size and diverse terroirs. La Rosa Estate is an excellent example of this diversity, with vineyards extending from about 100 m above sea level, along the river in the imposing Vale do Inferno, up to 500 m at the Lamelas vineyard. There are different sun exposures — east, north, and south — and a wide variety of grape varieties. Always with a privileged view of the Douro River, all grapes from the Estate are Grade A, the best the region has to offer. The poor, gravelly soils, combined with varied topography, favor the production of full‑bodied wines with excellent levels of minerality, acidity, and freshness. The combination of complexity and power, when paired with good ripening, along with the Estate’s characteristic elegance and freshness, has made its wines renowned. They are wines that express the terroir with elegance, without excesses in ripening, extraction, tannin, or oak. **Harvest** The winter was relatively dry and warm, leaving the groundwater level shallow into spring. Bud burst and flowering were good, indicating promising yields, but summer heat waves had a significant impact. Heat spikes interspersed with cooler periods were recorded; still, the town of Pinhão reached 47 °C, the highest ever recorded. Great flexibility during harvest was essential, with a specific approach for each plot, allowing some vineyards to be harvested while others remained in the field to continue ripening. The 2022 harvest can be described as a two‑phase yield: an initial very hot and intense period marked by rapid and flexible decisions under extreme conditions, followed by a less intense period after the mid‑September rain.
