The earliest known historical references to Quinta da Pellada date back to around 1570. However, it was in 1980 that Álvaro de Castro—a civil engineer with a passion for wine—enthusiastically acquired the estate, reviving a family wine‑making tradition that had been dormant for two generations. Later, he purchased Quinta de Saes. Both properties, situated at the foot of Serra da Estrela, benefit from protection against Atlantic winds, which contributes to the wines' aromatic complexity.
