Quinta do Cardo The red wine from Quinta do Cardo Superior is a DOC Beira Interior wine produced at high altitude and in an organic manner. Crafted with a wisdom rooted in nearly a century of viticultural knowledge, these wines stand out for the sensory and cultural experience they offer and for their unique personality, imbued with a rare quality and integrity. With a refined architecture that delivers freshness, lightness, and authenticity, the reds are striking and robust. The granitic geology of the Beira Interior Plateau gives the wines from Quinta do Cardo a fresh, mineral character. The organic production method pioneered by Quinta do Cardo in Portugal preserves native fauna and flora, fostering biodiversity in our agricultural ecosystem and having a strong impact on the final quality of the wines produced here. The first wine was made at Quinta do Cardo in the 1930s, called Branco Maia. In 1988 the first red wine was bottled under the Quinta do Cardo label. The brand’s reputation surged rapidly, quickly establishing itself among Portugal’s great wines and bringing prestige and strength to the then‑unknown Beira Interior. Beira Interior reds display a vivid red hue, aromas of red fruit—especially in young wines—often accompanied by delicate floral notes. In terms of body, they are usually very balanced, with well‑integrated tannins, firm acidity, and a suitable alcohol level, giving them an interesting harmony. Still, a prominent fixed acidity can sometimes be noted, especially in younger vintages. They have good mouth‑feel persistence and typically reveal a longevity that allows for late drinking, years after vinification. Vinification: the grapes of the three varieties fermented separately in stainless‑steel tanks with gentle recirculations. The entire wine was then aged in used French oak barrels.
