Quinta do Cardo The Superior Red Wine from Quinta do Cardo is a DOC Beira Interior wine produced at altitude and using organic methods. Crafted with a wisdom rooted in almost 100 years of viticultural knowledge, these wines stand out for the sensory and cultural experience they offer and for their unique personality, brimming with rare quality and integrity. With a refined architecture that delivers freshness, lightness and authenticity, the reds are striking and robust. The granitic geological matrix of the Beira Interior plateau imparts a fresh, mineral character to the Quinta do Cardo wines. Quinta do Cardo’s pioneering organic production preserves native fauna and flora, fostering biodiversity in our agricultural ecosystem and having a strong positive impact on the final quality of the wines produced here. In the 1930s the first wine was produced at Quinta do Cardo, named Branco Maia. In 1988 the first red was bottled under the Quinta do Cardo label. The brand’s reputation quickly rose, establishing itself among Portugal’s great wines and bringing much prestige and strength to the then‑unknown Beira Interior region. Beira Interior reds display a very vibrant red hue, with aromas of red fruits—especially in young vintages—sometimes accompanied by delicate floral notes. In terms of body they are generally well balanced, with tannins, fixed acidity and alcohol content in harmony, which gives them an interesting overall balance; though a noticeable fixed acidity can sometimes be felt, particularly when young. They have good mouth‑feel persistence and typically show a longevity that allows for late consumption, years after vinification. Vinification: grapes of the three varieties were fermented separately in stainless‑steel tanks, with gentle surcharges. The entire wine then aged in used French oak barrels.
