This Syrah from Quinta do Gradil – a producer dating back to 1492 – is a statement of intent. Deep in colour, reminiscent of ripe blackberries, it bursts with intense aromas of wild berries, with a subtle, intriguing chemical note – a touch of sophistication, as if Dom Luís Vieira himself added a hint of “Eau de Cologne” to the must. On the palate, elegance reigns supreme, with tannins perfectly balanced in a near-divine harmony, worthy of a celebration like those hosted by Dona Maria do Carmo Romeiro da Fonseca. Clearly influenced by the terroir of the Lisbon region, and awarding a remarkable 17 points according to *Revista de Vinhos*, it’s superb with a hearty roast, if you’ll pardon the suggestion.
