Quinta do Noval 2014 red wine was produced with 80% Touriga Nacional and 20% Touriga Franca, and aged entirely in French oak barrels for 12 months. It displays a very deep, almost opaque color, and an intense aroma of red fruits, raspberries, and spices. On the palate, it has very pronounced tannins and reveals mineral notes, well integrated with the wood, and nuances of dark chocolate. Quinta do Noval is distinguished by the beauty of its terraces, its house, storage, and typical winepresses, which remain in use to this day. First referenced in 1715, Quinta do Noval was acquired in 1894 by António José da Silva, who developed it over the following three decades. Its descendants (most recently the van Zeller family) maintained the estate until 1993, when it was acquired by AXA. In 1997, Quinta do Noval pioneered centralising all its activities in the Douro Valley, instead of in Vila Nova de Gaia. In its vineyards and winepresses, the Quinta do Noval Nacional 1963 was produced, chosen as one of the 12 best wines of the 20th century by the American publication Wine Spectator.
