This “Kamikaze Yellow” from Quinta do Piloto is a delightfully eccentric wine, as if crafted by a slightly rebellious hero. Six years aging in barrels, without formal certification, has resulted in a captivatingly complex white – almost as though it’s had a bit of a party with oxygen. The Verdelho grape really goes to work, consuming the alcohol and lending a pronounced note of dried fruit, a bold move indeed. It’s a wine best enjoyed with sheep’s cheese and honey to tame its wild spirit.
