Made from a rigorous selection of the finest Arinto grapes, this wine displays a lemon‑yellow hue. Its aroma is rich and complex, with notes of green apple and floral nuances, complemented by an elegant minerality. On the palate it is structured, fresh, and finishes long. Founded in 1920 by brothers José, Manuel, and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that originally focused on distributing fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today the oldest still‑operating family winery in the municipality of Anadia, it began trading Bairrada table wines in the 1930s after the prohibition on producing Port wine outside Vila Nova de Gaia. At the end of the 1950s, one of the most celebrated wine brands from the Bairrada region – ‘Frei João’ – was born, and a little later, the ‘Porta dos Cavaleiros’ brand from the demarcated Dão region.
