This young Douro producer, Quinta do Portal, is certainly delivering a surprise. The fruit is strikingly fresh and pure – as the critics noted – dominated by black cherry, with a delicate toasty nuance coming from the new French oak aging. It boasts a beautifully balanced mouthfeel with vibrant acidity and incredibly smooth tannins, a result of blending with Viosinho and Gouveio. Already lauded by wine publications (scoring 87 points!), it’s best enjoyed between 16-17°C, perhaps alongside a perfectly grilled piece of meat.
