“This Pê Franco from Quinta do Ribeirinho isn’t a wine for the faint of heart. Luís Pato, with the meticulousness of an alchemist, planted 1.2ha of Baga on sandy soil – a clever move to combat phylloxera and, consequently, the Baga’s exuberance. After seven patient years, the first harvest revealed a full-bodied wine, achieved through careful, successive stems (or ‘mundas’) to tame the acidity and tannins of the Baga. Now, with 2.5ha and a cluster-per-vineyard approach, production is deliberate, but the reward is a wine with the potential to age gracefully – perfect for marking life’s truly memorable moments, like welcoming a child or celebrating a significant milestone.”
