It is at Velho Sobral that Cristina Simões, the founder’s daughter, grows up alongside her grandparents, learning the art of the land, playing, and above all discovering love—love that continues to overflow with pride. Her dream began with sacrifice in 1997, when she started acquiring land at Velho Sobral, replanting old vines, and built her cellar in 2000, constantly advancing the technology and space at her disposal. The Sobral Estate now covers 15 hectares of vineyard in production and over 20 hectares of forest, essential to the terroir of the Dão wine. Returning to the sacrifices and betting on this project, Cristina Simões, a teacher by profession, and Jorge Loureiro, a hotel manager from a 5‑star complex in England, form a passionate couple with shared ideas. They embrace Nelson Simões’s project and, making their dream a reality, leave behind their well‑established careers to focus solely on the Sobral Estate. We reach a turning point at Sobral, but it is not the arrival of Cristina and Jorge that caused this change; it was precisely the arrival of Maria—daughter, granddaughter, and soul of the Sobral Estate.
