This Douro white from Quinta do Vallado is utterly beguiling – it genuinely smells of sun-ripened melons, a rather unorthodox freshness thanks to the open bica fermentation. The minerality, clearly rooted in the terroir, beautifully balances the sweetness with a persistent citrus note, while the young Viosinho, Gouveio and Códega grapes exhibit a wonderfully youthful exuberance. Seriously delicious with grilled fish and a generous helping of arroz de cabidela – a truly memorable pairing.
