One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate that once belonged to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira—known as “Ferreirinha”—and which remains in the hands of her descendants to this day. Vallado wines had long been forgotten, but they have now naturally reclaimed their lost time. They are wines of great significance in the history of the Douro and deserve a place among the very best. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the region. It sits just outside Régua, on the banks of the Rio Corgo. The destiny of this emblematic estate rests in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the management of the company and the winemaking, respectively.
