Quinta Nova was the site of the first monovarietal planting study in the Douro, carried out at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. Between 1979 and 1981, together with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture and the Centre for Viticultural Studies of the Douro, the best solar exposures on the estate were selected for planting three varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca. Plot 28, planted with Tinta Roriz, comprises 2,650 vines on a 25 % slope at an altitude between 205 and 210 m. The grape showcases the viticultural challenge and human perseverance in preserving an ancient, authentic Douro. Its austerity is evident on the palate, yet it is also seduced by a contemporary sophistication that, combined with the century‑old vineyard on Plot 21, produces a lot that exemplifies a reference in Portuguese Douro—a wine rich in mineralogy, blue fruit, and spicy notes, with a firm structure and a tight palate. The high concentration, density, and depth fully express its origin. Awards: 97/100 Robert Parker Allergen information: Contains sulfites.
