It was at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo that the first monovarietal planting study took place in the Douro region. Between 1979 and 1981, in partnership with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, through the Centre of Viticultural Studies of the Douro, the best sun exposures in Quinta Nova were selected for the planting of three varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca. Plot 29, planted with Touriga Nacional, consists of 3,300 vines on a 20 % slope and is located at an altitude between 170 and 205 metres. It represents a unique specimen and is a cornerstone of the history of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in its fullest expression of terroir. A true reference in the Douro, when combined with the centenary vineyard (Plot 21), yields a wine of an elegant, almost feminine profile that contrasts with an intensely succulent tannin structure of remarkable precision. The viscous texture, high gravitas, juicy profile, and purple hue all reflect the essence of Touriga Nacional.
