However, it was in 1996 that a new era of excellence began, when Cristiano van Zeller acquired the property from his wife Joana Lemos van Zeller's family. Over more than two decades, Cristiano led a effort marked by dedication and passion, creating unique wines of recognised quality both in Portugal and abroad. The acquisition of Quinta Vale D. Maria by the Aveleda group in 2017 represents the continuation of this legacy, adding a long-term vision focused on excellence and sustainability. This philosophy is based on a passion for every detail, beginning with the manual selection of the finest grapes, continuing with traditional winemaking methods, and ending with careful selection of the best French oak barrels.
