“Segredo 6” by Francisco “Costinha” Costa – it’s a delightfully puzzling wine, really. Born from the oldest vines of Trás-os-Montes, specifically in Mirandela, this red relies on the ripeness of its grapes, eschewing any showiness. Sixteen months in new French oak barrels certainly added a touch of indulgence, but according to the producers, it simply enhances the inherent character of the terroir. Expect a remarkably elegant and persistent finish – a seriously memorable experience, particularly good with black pork.
