Barca Velha 1985 reveals aromas of dark fruit, noble wood, earthy notes, tobacco and a hint of leather. On the palate it is dry and intense, structured and balanced between acidity and alcohol content, with excellent quality, persistent tannins. Sogrape Vinhos was founded in 1942 by Fernando van Zeller Guedes with the ambition of introducing Portuguese wines to the world and a long‑term vision based on the quality of the wines sold, the novelty of the brands and the presentation of its wines. Today led by the third generation of the founding family, Sogrape Vinhos increasingly fulfills the objective set at its inception: to be a family‑run, internationally oriented company focused on producing quality wines, innovation, and developing Portuguese brands of global calibre. Since its foundation in the 18th century by Bernardo Ferreira, the formula has been refined by descendants, especially by his granddaughter Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, affectionately known as “Ferreirinha” or “Ferreirinha‑da‑Régua” by people in her region. Under Dona Antónia, who twice became a widow and still led a large company, Ferreira established herself admirably. Her entrepreneurial spirit taught her to anticipate, decide, create, teach and love, making her a figure of great influence and charisma. Barca Velha is the unquestionable symbol of the highest quality of Douro wines. Classic, intense, complex and elegant are the adjectives that describe what has been, since its creation in 1952, the most famous Portuguese wine.
