Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has made a long journey, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring properties across the national territory and creating new paradigms for quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an ancient property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the Quinta and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa constitute an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Fundação Berardo, belonging to the family of the same name, whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On 23 June 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. In the surrounding area of Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, wine cellars and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
