Volcanic terroir Born from lava soils rich in mineral nutrients, the red wine Terras de Lava is an IGP from the Azores and genuinely expresses the volcanic terroir. The Viticultural Cooperative of Pico Island was founded in 1949, when local growers joined forces to revive noble varieties and the tradition of stone-yard vineyards, now classified as UNESCO World Heritage. Over the years, more members joined the cause, bringing the total to 250 today, comprising women, men, and families who devote their lives to their passion and a centuries‑old art. With 75 years of history, it is the oldest wine producer in the Azores and continues to respect and preserve viticultural traditions. This alliance underpins the quality of wines created in Azorean soils. Vinification: After being carefully selected, grapes from the different varieties are vinified separately. They ferment at a controlled temperature of 22 °C in contact with the grape skins for optimal extraction of colour and aromas. They undergo partial ageing in used French oak barrels, with the batch only being finished at the end of the ageing period. Winemaker: Bernardo Cabral. Allergen information: Contains sulphites.
