This Alvarinho, apparently a rare find, has clearly been nurtured with a touch of theatrical flair. Grown under a microclimate demanding near-religious attention, these prized Portuguese grapes – undoubtedly some of the best – are expertly coaxed out by Quintas de Melgaço’s traditional, yet painstaking, winemaking. The result is a wine obsessed with both presentation and performance, as if the drinker is a demanding critic rather than a mere enthusiast. Delicious with fresh fish or shellfish, of course.
