Vagüera El Maderal Branco

Description

Vagüera is a term used in the municipal designation of El Maderal to describe a terrain that holds a lot of water and is easily flood‑prone. In this type of soil, only 500 vines have been planted to form the vineyard from which Álvar de Deus produces just over a thousand bottles of wine made entirely from the Doña Blanca variety. After a period of aging on its lees, the result is a distinctive white wine unlike any other in the region. Luis Gutiérrez, a critic for The Wine Advocate, notes that in the 2022 vintage it “seems more Mediterranean, with touches of flowers, spices and herbs, nuanced and complex.”
