This Val Moreira DOC Douro is a delightful surprise, just the kind the Douro keeps in store for us, with its century-old vines. The nose reveals an elegance that beautifully contrasts with the powerful blend of Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez. Expect notes of dark plum, subtle floral nuances, and a hint of spice, all underpinned by a whisper of vanilla – seemingly gleaned from a chat with the oak barrels. On the palate, the structure is firm, yet mellowed with masterful skill by enologist Ricardo Gomes. It demands respect, yet rewards with a persistence that urges you to linger. At 5.6g/L, the acidity provides freshness, while a pH of 3.55 imbues it with remarkable complexity – a truly fitting accompaniment to lamb, game, or a well-aged cheese.
