The Vallado Reserva red wine is made from vines aged 60 to 100 years, composed of more than 35 traditional Douro grape varieties, with a predominance of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca. After malolactic fermentation, it ages for 18 months in 225‑liter French oak barrels. It displays a highly concentrated aroma, with notes of fig, blackberry, tobacco and subtle balsamic nuances from the wood. On the palate it is full‑bodied and robust, with mature, rounded tannins, ending in an elegant, mineral, persistent and complex finish. One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate once owned by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, and still in the hands of her descendants. Vallado wines were unjustly forgotten and have now naturally reclaimed lost time. They are of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve top‑tier recognition. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado stands as one of the oldest estates in the Douro. It is situated close to Régua, on the banks of the Rio Corgo. The destiny of this iconic estate lies in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who oversee the business and enology respectively.
