“Vega Alion seems to have a rather impatient personality. Harvested by hand and using 12kg grape boxes – a touch bordering on obsessive, really! Fermentation takes place in oak tanks with incredibly tight temperature control, ensuring a remarkably generous phenolic structure that truly defines this wine’s character. Rumour has it Vega Sicilia is so focused on building this structure that the grapes themselves need to be ‘well prepared’ before meeting the alcohol. Absolutely brilliant with a perfectly grilled steak – it’s like a hearty snack for the meat!”
