This 40-year-old Vieira de Sousa is a seriously oak-driven affair. It’s delivering a wonderfully intense oxidation, resulting in a rich, olive-green hue – a style certainly worthy of its age, as confirmed by those impressive 96 points from *Revista de Vinhos*. The nose is powerfully dominated by fine-grained oak, punctuated by cloves, cinnamon and a whisper of nutmeg, all hinting at a patient maturation amongst the estate’s historic Douro vines. Seriously delicious with aged cheeses or a decadent foie gras.
