This “Homem Bom” Merlot from the Dão is certainly a wine worthy of royalty. Black fruit bursts forth on the nose, though with a restrained elegance – a hallmark of the Dão’s terroir. Remarkably smooth and ripe tannins hint at careful maturation, likely with a touch of oak as favoured by the producer. It’s wonderfully balanced, and would pair beautifully with a hearty red meat dish, perhaps alongside some wild mushrooms.
