Riesling is one of the world's most distinguished and underrated white grapes — the great variety of Germany, Alsace and Austria's Wachau. It produces wines across the full sweetness spectrum, from bone-dry (Trocken) to lusciously sweet (Trockenbeerenauslese), all bound by Riesling's signature combination of bright stone-fruit and citrus aromatics, slate-mineral character and electric acidity that allows them to age for decades. The variety is among the most transparent expressions of terroir in wine.
