Veneto is Italy's largest wine-producing region by volume and the home of three globally famous styles: Prosecco, Soave and Amarone. The flat plain along the Po produces vast quantities of Prosecco from Glera, mostly via the tank method; the hills around Verona are home to the Valpolicella reds — including Amarone, made from partially dried grapes for extraordinary concentration, depth and alcohol. Soave, from Garganega grown on volcanic soils, produces fresh-to-serious whites. The cooler hills of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene produce Prosecco DOCG, a step up in quality from the broader category.
