Crasto Reserva Vinhas Velhas is made from grapes sourced from the old vineyards of Quinta do Crasto, with an average age of around 70 years, in an authentic blend of the best that the Douro has to offer. Aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels, it shows a complex aroma in which fruit and wood come together perfectly integrated, accompanied by elegant notes of spice. On the palate it reveals great intensity and depth, balanced by a firm structure of tannins and a long, persistent finish. Located on the right bank of the Douro River, between Régua and Pinhão, Quinta do Crasto is a property of about 130 hectares, 70 of which are planted with vines. The company's holdings also include Quinta do Querindelo, with 10 hectares of old vines, and Quinta da Cabreira, in the Douro Superior, with 114 hectares of vineyards. Set in a privileged location within the Douro Demarcated Region, Quinta do Crasto has been owned by the Roquette family, led by Leonor and Jorge Roquette, for more than a century. As is often the case with the great Douro estates, the origins of Quinta do Crasto go back a long way: the name Crasto derives from the Latin "castrum," meaning Roman fort.
