Referenced since 1751, Ferreira has always been synonymous with high-quality Portuguese wine. The history of the brand is intertwined with the evolution of the Douro Demarcated Region, established in 1756, and of its Port wines and still wines. Years later, the family-owned company came to be managed by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known as a woman of exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she gave a great boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a notable social welfare activity in the region. After her death, the company became a limited liability company (sociedade por quotas), and a new phase of expansion began, always maintaining its fundamental values. These values have carried Ferreira to the present day and were instrumental in the creation of legendary wines such as Barca Velha, in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, the company has led the national Port wine market and also presents prestigious wine brands, such as Quinta da Leda.
